Purdy and Meek score twice in Blazers win

The Liverpool Privateers had their season-opening four game winning streak snapped by the Sackville Blazers in Sackville Monday night.  The Blazers Justin Hardie connected on the power-play less than five minutes int the first period before the Privateers Alec Howie scored twice, his first coming 21 seconds after Hardie’s goal. Howie netted another mid-way through the first but that was all the Privateers could do the rest of the evening.  Liverpool struggled in giving up late period goals, such as in the first period when they lost their 2-1 lead when Sackville’s Will Meek on the power-play and David Purdy connected for goals in the final 1:11 of the opening frame.  Meek scored his second of the game to put the 2-2-1 Blazers up 4-2 in the second before Hardie connected for his 2nd of the game just over 3 minutes later to make it 5-2 Blazers.  David Purdy with his second of the night scored short-handed mid-way through the third to make the final 6-2.  The Privateers did hold a 40-34 shots advantage over the Blazers.

The Privateers and Blazers swing back into action this Friday night with Liverpool travelling to Lantz to play the 3-0-2 Penguins while the Blazers will be in Windsor to play the 0-5-0 Maple Leafs.  Two other games Friday night have Port Hawkesbury travelling to Antigonish and Pictou to Springhill to play the Cumberland County Blues.  Game time starts for all 4 games will be 7:30 p.m.
