Jr. Bulldogs now in 1st place in Rowe

The defending Provincial Champions the 11-3-1 Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs having spent the beginning of the season battling Hurricane Fiona, finally took over first place in the Sid Rowe Division Saturday night with a 3-1 win over the Membertou Jr. Miners.  The now 7-10-0 Jr. Miners took a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes on a goal from Dylan MacDonald 1:05 into the game.  The Jr. Bulldogs who outshot the Jr. Miners 34-32 connected for pair in the second from Darren Waterman and Noah Harrison to lead 2-1 after forty minutes. Both teams played it close in the third with tech checking before the Jr. Miners pulled their goalie in hopes of tying the game only to see the Jr. Bulldogs Will Fitzsimmons dump one into an empty net with 1:21 left to make the final 3-1.  The Bulldogs could maintain their first place standing all depending what happens between the Jr. Miners and Jr. Eagles over the next 3 weeks.  The Jr. Miners and Eagles wrap up the League’s schedule prior to the Christmas break with a game Sunday in Eskasoni before playing their two traditional  games over the holiday on Dec 28 and Dec 30.  The Jr. Bulldogs do not  return to the ice until Friday Jan 6 which at that point the Jr. Bulldogs will have two games in hand in the Jr. Eagles as they head to the finish line.  Elsewhere Saturday:

These two clubs were meeting fir the first time since the Leafs unexpected crushing 7-1 win in Windsor Dec 2.  The 9-5-2 Elks displayed stamina and rebounded with a solid win over Sackville before losing in overtime to East Hants.  Saturday afternoon at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex. The Elks showed their hunger in halting the 4-16-0 Maple Leafs three game winning streak with a pair of goals in the first period en route to a 4-2 win over the Leafs.  Keegan Macumber with the first of his two on the afternoon and Sam MacNeil put the Elks up 2-0 after twenty minutes.  Blake Deacon put the Leafs back to within one only 32 seconds into the second but Ben Stewart scored for the Elks to put Brookfield up 3-1 after forty minutes.  Robbie Dowell scored for the Leafs to make it 3-2 Elks with 12:20 left before Macumber scored his second of the game into an empty net with 24 seconds left to give the Elks their 4-2 victory,  Brookfield outshot the Valley 40-33.
