Penguins take over first place in Fox
The Sackville Blazers with a win in East Hants Friday night could have been assured of being in fourth place entering their game with the Valley Maple Leafs Monday night in Sackville. That win did not materialize in Lantz as the Blazers fell 7-6 to the East Hants Penguins, allowing the 12-2-2 Pens to take over sole position of first place in the Fred Fox Division while the Blazers will wait to see the Liverpool-Brookfield result this afternoon to see whether they are holding a down a playoff position. A Privateers win will knock the Blazers back to fifth while an Elks win would leave the Blazers trailing Brookfield by 5 points for third place going into Monday night’s home game.
East Hants who outshot the Blazers 43-28 staked themselves to a comfortable 5-1 lead after forty minutes on a pair of goals from Bruen Fisher, Sean Freeman, Blake Irvine, and Logan Colter. The Blazers on more than one occasion this year have given teams huge leads, only to try and come back with a wild third period scoring spree. It almost worked Friday as the Blazers stormed out of the gates with three goals from Justin Hardie, David Purdy and Stephen Purdy in the opening 2:48 of the third to make it 5-4 East Hants. Noah Comeau and Bruen Fisher with his third of the evening put the Pens back in front by 3 at 7-4 before the Blazers tried one last comeback on goals from Ryan MacIntyre and Duggan Gauthier, only to lose the game 7-6. Marshall Plandowski added three assists for the first place Pens who hold four games in hand on the 8-11-1 Blazers.
Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 11 Port Hawkesbury 4
Sonny Kabatay is one man wrecking crew when he is on the ice for the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles. He has recorded a 10 point night and a 7 point this season and Friday recorded an 8 point night with four goals and four assists to pace the Jr. Eagles to an 11-4 win over the now 9-6-1 Strait Pirates. Kabatay is averaging 3.27 points a game in the 18 games the 14-3-1 Jr. Eagles have played giving him 27 goals and 32 assists for 59 points. The Jr. Eagles posted period leads of 3-2 and 7-3 as they defeated the Strait for the fourth consecutive time this season. Other goal scorers for Eskasoni were Jacob Denny with three goals and 2 assists for a five point night, Marcellus Francis who scored once and added 4 helpers. Ethan Stanwick, Jacob Wolodka and Kendall MacQueen rounded out the scoring for the 1st place Eagles. Brady MacNeil, Owen Stockdale, Matthew Raike and Matthew Ellis responded for the now 9-6-1 Strait Pirates who were outshot 41-38.
Antigonish 8 Cumberland County 3
The Blues held the Jr. Bulldogs in check for the opening 30 minutes with Antigonish taking a 3-2 lead but after that it was all Bulldogs as they scored five of the game’s 6 final goals fo an 8-3 win. 12-3-1 Antigonish were paced by Will Mierau with a pair of goals while Kyler Lohnes scored once and added 3 assists and Will Fitzsimmons, Sam Grant and Zachary Lorette all contributed 1 goal and a pair of assists. Darren Waterman and Matthew Bercovici added the other goals for Antigonish. For the Blues, Callum Mccllelan, Brandon Forbes and Noah Sutherland added single markers. Antigonish held a 53-44 shots advantage.
