Eskasoni and Bulldogs keep winning

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles remain sizzling hot as they won their 15th game in 19 starts at home Sunday evening defeating the Pictou County Scotians 8-6.  The Scotians valiantly attempted to stay with the Jr. Eagles and Jack Tompkins with his second of the game actually tied the game 6-6 with 12:43 to play in the third but the tie lasted only 1:12 as Trey Sturge scored the game winner with 11:31 to go in regulation.  Sonny Kabatay who had scored two earlier goals, put one into an empty net with 22 seconds left to make the final 8-6.  Kabatay finished with three goals and an assist to give him 12 points in the 2 wins recorded by the Eagles over the weekend.  He now has 30 goals and 33 assists for 63 points in 19 games for the Jr. Eagles.  The club’s other sharp shooter Marcellus Francis scored three times and added two assists to give him 23 goals and 24 assists for 47 points on the season.  The other Jr. Eagles goal was netted by J.C. MacDonald who was part of an early flourish by the home team.  His was the second of the game within five minutes of the opening period when the Eagles went up 3-0.  Other Scotian goal scorers were Joseph Mason, Ryan Frizzle on a penalty shot.  Frizzle also garnered a pair of assists.  Cale Archibald and Cal Marner added the other two Scotian goals.  The win gives the Jr. Eagles a record of 15-3-1, 4 points ahead of Antigonish and 12 ahead of both Pictou and Port Hawkesbury.

Coby McCarron scored for the Jr. Miners 3:25 after the opening face-off but that all the scoring Membertou could do in Antigonish Sunday evening as they were defeated 4-1 by the 13-3-1 Jr. Bulldogs.  Cody MacEachern won his eighth game of the season in nets for the Bulldogs stopping 33 of 34 shots.  He has goals against average of 2:13 and has stopped 257 of 279 shots in the ten games he has played in.  Chris Keyes recorded a pair of goals for the Jr. Bulldogs while adding an assist while Zachary Stewart and Darren Waterman into an empty net were the other Bulldog goal scorers.  The Jr. Miners are now 8-13-1 and remain two points out of a playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division with only eight games remaining for them in the regular schedule.
