Strait pick up 2 huge points

The Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates picked up a vital win Thursday evening in Eskasoni edging the Jr. Eagles 2-1.  It was the Pirates first win over the Eagles in five games this season.  Danny Gillis put the Pirates up 1-0 five minutes into the opening period and that was all the scoring until the game’s final six minutes when Jason Johnson made it 2-0 Strait before Dante Basque ruined Keegan Greencorn’s bid for his second shut-out of the season with under 4 minutes left in regulation.  The win was vital for the Strait as it now gives them 28 points in the chase for the final two playoff spots.  Membertou currently is in fourth with 24 points and Pictou is fifth with 22 points.  Eskasoni now has 4-1-0 record against the Strait in 22-23 while the Pirates with the win are now 1-3-1.  The teams play one more time before the playoffs begin on Sunday evening Feb 19 in Eskasoni.  In their five games this season, the Jr. Eagles have outscored the Strait 32-19.
