Colts blank Blazers in playoff opener
The Capstone Colts are zeroed in on a berth in the Don Johnson Memorial Cup Atlantic Junior Hockey Championship in Liverpool April 25-30 this year and they got things rockin and rollin Monday night in Sackville as they won the first of what will be required a total of 12 wins to secure the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship as they blanked the Sackville Blazers 6-0. The Blazers and Colts played to a scoreless draw in the opening period before Benjamin Veinot scored the first of his two goals in the second period to give the Colts a 1-0 lead after forty minutes. The third period, the colts came out smoking and left the Blazers in their rearview mirror as they scored five times to blank the Blazers 6-0 and take a 1-0 lead in their Best-of-Seven Fox Divisional Semi-Final. The Colts outshot Sackville 47-32 as Alex MacVicar recorded yet another shut-out for the Colts in goal. Benjamin Veinot tallied his second goal of the game and singles were registered by Liam Andrews, Tyler Puma, Stephen Warwick and Cody Garcin. Games 2 and 3 in this series will be played Friday and Saturday night in the colts home arena at C.F.B. Shearwater before game 4 swings back to Sackville Monday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m.
