After problems with no ice at the beginning of the season and at least 2 storm postponements, the Pictou County Scotians and Eskasoni Jr. Eagles were finally able to play their 30th and final regular season game in Trenton Monday night with the Scotians dealing the Eagles an 8-3 thumping.  Pictou held period leads of 2-0 and 4-0 before an explosion of goals in the third period.  With the win, Pictou was able to finish the season above .500 with a 15-13-2 record while the Jr. Eagles settled for second place with a 21-8-1 record.  Monday’s game could conceivably be the first of eight in a row between the two club when you consider the opening round Best-of-Seven Rowe Divisional Semi-Final they will begin Friday night in Eskasoni.

 

The teams were tied 41-41 in shots Monday in Trenton and Thomas Kennaley who also collected three assists and Jayden Hatchers gave the Scotians a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes.  In the second Camden Burgess and Jack Tompkins scored to give Pictou a 4-0 lead after forty minutes.  An explosion of goals in the third saw the Scotians score four and the Eagles 3.  For the Scotians, Jack Tompkins who also had an assist scored his second of the game, while Luke Young, Cale McAndrew and Nate Supryka rounded out the Scotians scoring.  Jacob Denny, Kendall MacQueen and Curtis Novak replied for the Eagles. Sonny Kabatay finished with a pair of assists and giving him the league scoring championship with 42 goals and 50 assists for 92 points in the Eagles 30 regular season games.  Game 2 in the playoff series goes in Trenton Sunday March 5 at 6:00 p.m. and Game 3 back in Eskasoni Tuesday, March 7.
