Strait and Bulldogs square off in Gm 1

The defending Nova Scotia Junior Hockey Leaue Champions the AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs will be looking to go back to the 2023 Don Johnson Memorial Cup Championship Tournament in Liverpool when they open their 2022-23 NSJHL Playoffs tonight in Antigonish against the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates.  From all indications the Jr. Bulldogs who finished in first in the Sid Rowe Division this season should have no difficulty with the Strait Pirates finishing 23 points ahead of them in the division as the Jr. Bulldogs finished at 26-3-1 for 53 points while the Strait went 14-14-2 for 30 points.  The Jr. Bulldogs with the exception of the first game between the clubs in which the Strait won 8-4 ran roughshod over the Pirates by defeating them in their other five games including a pair of shut-out wins 2-0 and 4-0 as well as 6-2 and a pair of 7-3 wins outscoring the Pirates 30-16.  The Jr. Bulldogs finished first both offensively and defensively in the league scoring 154 times for an average of 5.13 goals a game while allowing 67 goals on an average of 2.23 goals a game.  As for the Strait, they finished 7th offensively with 123 goals or 4.03 goals a game and 10th defensively allowing 132 goals or 4.4 goals a game.  The 2 teams recorded a total of 292 minutes in penalties in the six gams between them for an average of 48.6 minutes per game.  The series schedule shapes up like this following Friday’s game in Antigonish.
