Colts and Bulldogs - Game 1 Good Friday
The AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs will be going after their second consecutive Nova Scotia Provincial Junior Championship when they meet head on with the Capstone Colts out of Cole Harbour-Shearwater Good Friday April 7 in Antigonish at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 swings back to C.F.B. Shearwater Easter Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. The Jr. Bulldogs have been off since March 26 - a total of 11 days when they return to action Friday night at home. The 26-3-1 Bulldogs swept the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles in the Sid Rowe Divisional Final and have won eight consecutive games to date in the 22-23 playoffs. The Colts despite their 24-5-1 and first place finish have had a tougher time defeating Sackville in five games but did not finish off Liverpool until the 7th and deciding game of their series in Shearwater Wednesday night April 5. It was a low scoring affair with the Colts Goalie Alec MacVicar registering his 9th shut-out of the season in 33 games, 4 of those shut-outs coming in this year’s playoff round. MacVicar stopped all 36 shots he faced as the Privateers outshot the Colts 36-30 despite suffering their 2-0 setback. Colin Goodwin’s power-play goal with 46 seconds to play in the opening period proved to be the game winning goal while Cody Garcin added an insurance marker with 4:14 to play in regulation. This marked the second consecutive year the Colts and Privateers went seven games in the playoffs, last year it was in the opening round when the Colts took the seventh and deciding game on home ice at C.F.B. Shearwater. The winner of the provincial championship series will advance to the Don Johnson Memorial Cup in Liverpool from April 25-30 when fans can look forward to 12 superb games of hockey between teams from across Atlantic Canada.
