Game of the Week Chosen
It was another tough choice this week by the selection committee of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League as to which was “The Game of the Week.” After a lengthy consideration, the game of the week for Nov 1-8 is the game won by the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 5-3 over the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates Sunday in Eskasoni. Andrew Burke put on a goaltending display for the ages stopping 55 of 58 shots fired at him by the Strait, who outshot the Jr. Eagles 58-23. Another exciting aspect to this game was the fact that with Eskasoni leading 3-1 with five minutes to play in regulation, the teams exchanged four goals in the final five minutes including three in the final minute of regulation, two of them empty-netters. A close second was the overtime game in Trenton between the Pictou County Scotians and Valley Maple Leafs which the Scotians won 3-2, 57 seconds into sudden-death overtime. The Scotians took an early 2-0 lead but the Maple Leafs tied it up with a pair of goals five seconds apart in the third period. The winning overtime goal was scored by Thomas Kennaley of the Scotians. The game also featured electrifying goaltending as Eli James turned away 40 of 42 shots he faced in the Scotian nets and Jackson Murphy who blocked 37 of 40 shots in the Maple Leafs net.
