Another difficult choice for Game of the Week

A total of seven games were played in the opening weekend of 2024 in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League after a well deserved Christmas break.  Selecting the game of the week was not an easy choice once again.  Instead of one game, we had a tie once again.

The tie was between the Membertou Jr. Miners and the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates game of Friday, Jan 5th and the South Shore Lumberjacks and the Sackville Blazers game of Monday, January 8/24

When you hear of the details, you will understand why.  Friday, January 5 in the Strait, the Jr. Miners staked themselves to a 4-0 lead only to see the Pirates eventually tie with a pair of unanswered goals in the third period before Drew Baldwin tallied the OT winner for the Jr. Miners.  Sam Beaton had tied it for the Strait Pirates with just over a minute left in regulation.

With such a comeback by the Strait and the thrilling overtime win, this game would have usually been selected easily the game of the week until you saw the Lumberjacks and Blazers in action Monday, Jan 8th in Sackville.  Both clubs skated hard, passed the puck exceptionally well, took 95 shots on net between the two clubs, saw Sackville rally from a 3-1 deficit before Liam Sylvester scored the Lumberjacks winning goal in the third period.
