Penguins and South Shore set to face-off in Lantz

Play resumes in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League this evening Friday, Jan 12/24 with three games on tap.  The biggest one will be in Lantz at 7:30 between the host East Hants Penguins and the visiting South Shore Lumberjacks.  South Shore will come into Lantz with two games in hand on the Penguins and trailing them by six points for first in the Fred Fox Division.  The Lumberjacks are 14-4-1 and are coming off a tough 4-3 win over the Sackville Blazers Monday evening in Sackville.  The two clubs have not played each other to date this season and this will be the first of four scheduled meetings between the Lumberjacks and Penguins over the next five weeks.  East Hants is 17-3-1 for 35 points.  When this game is over, there could even be a shake-up in the League scoring race.  The Penguins Devin Meagher occupies first place with 27 points on 19 goals and 8 assists.  Then a six-way tie exists for second place with all players having 26 points.  Of those 6, playing tonight will be Daniel Kline from the Lumberjacks who has 12 goals and 14 assists and Logan Durno and Nick Veinot of the Penguins.  Durno has 8 goals and 18 assists and Veinot six goals and 20 assists.  Game time in Lantz is 7:30 p.m.

 
In Windsor, the Valley Maple Leafs are hosting the Capstone Colts in a 7:30 start at the John Paris Jr. Rink.  The Colts are in second place in the Fox Division with a 16-4-1 mark for 33 points.  Their fourth loss of the season came when the Colts played the Leafs prior to the Christmas break and the Leafs Justin Banks scored with 1:08 remaining in regulation giving the Valley their 4-3 win.  The Valley will play their 20th game of the season tonight and presently have a record of 6-13-0.  The two teams will be meeting for the third time this season with the Colts having won the other game 5-3 at C.F.B. Shearwater.
 
The final game of the evening takes place in Antigonish between the powerful Jr. Bulldogs and the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles. Game time is 7:30 in Antigonish and the Bulldogs have one of the six players tied for second in the scoring race with 26 points.  He is Will Fitzsimmons who has 11 goals and 15 assists.  The Jr. Bulldogs Sam Grant occupies third place in the scoring race with 9 goals and 16 assists for 25 points.  These clubs have already played twice this year with the Bulldogs taking quite a bite out Eskasoni both times by scores of 7-0 and 9-2.  Game time in Antigonish is 7:30.  The Jr. Eagles presently trail the Pictou County Scotians by a single point in the race for the fourth and final playoff position in the Sid Rowe Division and also have three games in hand on the Scotians.
