Burke and Maillet - NS Egg Farmers Players of the Week
Andrew Burke with his stellar goaltending for Eskasoni and Adam Maillet of the Sackville Blazers have been named Nova Scotia Egg Farmers players of the week respectively in the Sid Rowe and Fred Fox Divisions of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League for the week of Oct 4-7th.
1. Burke — He earned his first five points of the month as he turned away 74 of 78 shots in leading the Jr. Eagles to a split of two in the past week. He stopped 37 of 38 shots in the Jr. Eagles 4-1 win over Port Hawkesbury Sunday and despite a loss he turned away 37 of 40 shots in a hard-fought 3-2 loss to the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs Friday. To date in six games this season, Burke has a 2.83 Goals Against Average, a .935 save percentage and has allowed only 17 goals in six games stopping 244 of 261 shots fired at him. As a result of his selection, Burke will receive 2 dozen eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia for his accomplishments.
2. Cadyn Power - of the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates finished 2nd in player of the week standings in the Rowe Division. Power continued his offensive ways with a goal and an assist as the Pirates slipped by the Capstone Colts Friday night at home and while not registering any points still played solidly Sunday in the Pirates loss to the Eagles. On the season, Power now is averaging more than a point a game as he has five goals and 3 assists for eight points.
3. Owen Juurlink — Played impressively enough in the Bulldogs 3-2 win over the Eagles. He recorded a goal and an assist and how has 2 goals and 5 assists in seven games to date this season.
The top 3 players earned 5, 3 and a single point for their placings and they are compiled at the end of the month to select the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia player of the month. The player who earns this reward receives five dozen eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia.
Fred Fox Division:
1. Adam Maillet - He continues to play solid hockey and delivered huge in Monday night’s 7-6 overtime win over the Brookfield Elks at home in Sackville. The Blazers Assistant Captain scored the overtime winner with under a minute to play in the five minute sudden-death while also recording another goal and recording one assist. He was also solid in the Blazers 3-2 win over the Lumberjacks in Bridgewater Saturday. Like Burke with the Jr. Eagles, he receives two dozen eggs from the Egg Farmers of Nova Scotia.
2. Liam Andrews — Earns three points in a solid performance as he scored twice and added an assist in the Colts doubling of the Membertou Jr. Miners on the road Saturday night 6-3. This was a much needed victory for the Colts who were upended 3-2 by Port Hawkesbury in the Strait Friday night.
3. Cale MacLellan — Earns 1 point for his efforts in Monday night’s 7-6 overtime loss to Sackville when he scored twice and added an assist. He never gave up and is a true warrior for the Elks who also won 6-4 over the Valley Maple Leafs Saturday afternoon at home in Brookfield.
