Hall of Fame and “Did You Know?”
The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League is proud to announce the addition of two exciting new features to its website: the NSJHL Hall of Fame and the “Did You Know?” historical section. These initiatives have been created to celebrate the rich history of Junior B hockey in Nova Scotia while recognizing the individuals, teams, and builders who have made a lasting impact on the league.
The newly established NSJHL Hall of Fame will serve as a permanent tribute to the athletes, teams, coaches, and builders whose contributions have helped shape the league throughout its history. The Hall of Fame Selection Committee will review nominations annually and determine the number of inductees selected from each category. All nominees must have participated in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, and athlete nominees must be retired from Junior B competition in Nova Scotia for a minimum of five years. There is no waiting period for builder nominations.
Community members, former players, coaches, team officials, and fans are encouraged to submit nominations. Each nomination should include as much supporting information as possible, including photographs, accomplishments, and any memorabilia that may assist the Selection Committee. Nominations must be submitted using the official nomination form which is available on the official NSJHL website under the ‘Info’ tab. A one-page cover letter from the nominator is also welcomed. The deadline for nominations is October 31 each year, with induction ceremonies taking place during the first week of January at a Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League game. All nominations will remain active for five years without the need for re-submission.
In addition to the Hall of Fame, the league is pleased to introduce the “Did You Know?” section, featuring historical stories and insights from longtime hockey historian of the NSJHL, Allan Fraser. This interactive section will highlight fascinating stories about players, teams, coaches, and builders who have played significant roles in the development and growth of Junior B hockey throughout Nova Scotia.
The NSJHL encourages visitors to explore these stories, submit suggestions for future topics, and provide feedback on published articles which can be sent to NSJHL President Dan Sangster at nsjhl.president@gmail.com. Through these shared memories and historical accounts, the league hopes to preserve and celebrate the legacy of Junior B hockey for generations to come.
The NSJHL invites all members of the hockey community to participate in these initiatives as we continue to honour our past while building our future.
