Jr. Bulldogs remain undefeated- now 5-0-0
The AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs keep on rolling as they recorded their fourth and fifth wins of this early 21-22 NSJHL Season Friday Oct 15 and Saturday Oct 16. They had to work hard for both wins 5-3 over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles on Friday and 5-4 over the Brookfield Elks at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex Saturday.
Antigonish 5 Eskasoni 3
Jake MacDonald has been setting up goals like Bobby Orr used to back in the 1970’s, he recorded 4 assists at home Friday night in the Jr. Bulldogs 5-3 win giving him 7 on the season. Fearghus MacDonald who presently leads the league in scoring scored his fourth of the season to go along with 7 assists for 11 points in the Bulldogs first five games. Thomas Simon of the Eagles who trails MacDonald by 3 points scored once and added two assists in the loss. Sam Mattie scored the second Bulldogs goal to give them a 2-1 lead before Will Fitzsimmons tallied with 36 seconds left in the first giving the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead going into the second period.
Antle Denny moved the Jr. Eagles to within one n the second period before Sam Mattie scored his second of the game on the power-play with 19 seconds left in the middle period to give the Bulldogs their game winning goal and 4-2 lead going into the third. Tyler Cross and Jacob Denny rounded out the game’s scoring in the third. For Denny it was his fifth of the season to go along with five assists leaving him one point back of the Bulldogs MacDonald in the scoring race. Antigonish outshot Eskasoni 42-31.
Antigonish 5 Brookfield 4
The Jr. Bulldogs went to 5-0-0 on the season in another nail-biter Saturday in Brookfield. Craig Landry and Darren Waterman tallied for the Bulldogs in the opening period before Connor Miller scored his first of two for the Elks to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead after the first period. Sam Mattie’s power-play goal made it 3-1 Antigonish in the second before Luke MacDonald’s short-handed effort made it 3-2 Antigonish. It only took 32 seconds however before the Bulldogs were up by two again when Will Fitzsimmons scored.
In a span of 2:04 before the third period was five minutes old, Miller with his second and Michael Sack tied the game at 4-4 for the Elks. it then took a power-play goal by the Bulldogs Sam Mattie with 9:59 left to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead, one they hung onto to go to 5-0-0. They will try and keep their winning streak moving when they travel to CFB Shearwater and play the Capstone Colts Friday Oct 22 at 7:30 p.m.
