Privateers back to .500 -- Pens now 3-2-0
The Liverpool Privateers certainly got their season off on the right foot winning their first two games on a weekend road-trip to Coe Breton but since their return, they have managed only one one win in four games and are now 3-3-0 on the season. Entering Friday night’s game at the Dr. Carson and Miriam Murray Centre in Springhill to face off against the Cumberland County Blues, the Privateers had lost two straight to fall back to 2-2-0. It took the Privateers awhile to get rolling Friday as six minutes into the second period, they trailed the Blues 3-2 but then a switch went on and the Privateers scored five unanswered goals to skate away with a 7-3 victory.
In the opening period, the teamster tied at 2-2 with Lathan Robinson and Christopher MacDonald scoring for the Privateers and Ethan Casey and Colby Titus on the power-play connected for the Blues. With 5:45 gone in the second, the Blues MacKenzie Richard tallied to put the Blues ahead 3-2 before Joe Osborne, Goodick Connor with the game-winning goal and Christopher McDonald with his second of the night put Liverpool ahead 5-3 after forty minutes. In the third Osborne connected for his second marker and Daniel Kline added a single marker, his 7th of the season to make the final 7-3. Liverpool outshot Cumberland 34-23.
East Hants 5 Liverpool 3
The Privateers were one game above .500 when they left Springhill with a 3-2-0 record but quickly fell back to 3-3-0 when they returned home Saturday evening to the Queens Place Emera Centre and were defeated by the East Hants Penguins 5-3. The Penguins with their win are now 3-2-0. The teams played to a scoreless drawing in the opening period before East Hants jumped in front 2-0 in the second period on goals from Bruen Fisher and Devin Meagher. John Shubaly scored for the Privateers to make it 2-1 East Hants before the teams traded goals again with Evan McHenry for the Penguins and Jude Greenwood for Blues on the power-play made it 3-2 East Hants after forty minutes. In the third, McHenry and Fisher both scored again for the Penguins. Both players also had 2 assists apiece on the evening giving them both four point nights. Fisher’s third period goal was an empty netter while John Shubaly on the power-play scored the Privateers lone goal. Liverpool did outshoot the Penguins 42-36. These same two teams will finish a home and home series Friday Oct 22 in Lantz.
