Bench Suspensions handed out and Chediac dominates for Scotians

It was a wild night at the OK Corral in Port Hawkesbury Friday night as 98 minutes in penalties were dished out in the Strait Pirates 8-5 win.  The penalty minutes were not actually huge but it was the suspensions that resulted as both Port Hawkesbury Head Coach Taylor Lambke and Assistant Tim MacMillan will both three-game suspensions while Eskasoni Trainer Lindros Denny will also serve a 3 game suspension.  All suspensions fell under the category of actions unbecoming to the game.

As for the game which saw the Strait Pirates improve to 3-0-0 and the Jr. Eagles fall to 1-5-0, Matthew Ellis and Jason Johnson both scored a pair of goals for the Strait Pirates with singles going to Gregor Yoell, Jack Nielsen, Matthew Raike and Lewis Taylor.  The game was close through two periods with the Strait Pirates holding leads of 2-1 and 5-4.  The Jr. Eagles knotted dit at 5 with 5:07 having elapsed in the third period before the Pirates exploded for three goals in the game’s final 3:36 for the victory. Kinnon Williams scored a pair of goals for the Jr. Eagles and Curtis Novak added a single marker.

The Jr. Eagles then travelled to Trenton Sunday night looking for their 2nd win of the season but came up short once again dropping a 5-3 decision at the hands of the Pictou County Scotians to fall to 1-7-0.  The Jr. Eagles appeared on the right track taking a 3-0 lead twenty-seven minutes into the game before the Scotians breathed fire, with that fire coming from essentially two players.  Matt Chediac scored three times and added two assists while Connor Aucoin added one goal and assisted on three others.  Matt Carson also scored for the Scotians.  Eskasoni narrowly outshot the Scotians 35-34.  There were 58 minutes in penalties called in the contest and the Scotians Cale McLaughlin took 34 of them including a pair of misconducts.  Thomas Simon, Jacob Denny and Jaden Martin on the power-play scored for the Jr. Eagles who have now completed 1/4 of their season.  The Jr. Eagles will play their ninth and tenth games of the season Halloween Weekend when they travel to Membertou Saturday evening and then entertain the Strait Pirates for a rematch Sunday afternoon at home.
