OT needed in Strait, Liverpool scores easy win
The Liverpool Privateers despite coming off a 5-3 loss at home on Remembrance Day to Antigonish entered Friday evening’s Nov 12 game at CFB Shearwater against the Cole Harbour Capstone Colts knowing they were 5-4-1, yet only 5 points back of the 1st Place Sackville Blazers in the Fred Fox Division. The Privateers did not suffer from any after thoughts about their loss Thursday as they came ready to rumble and easily upended the Colts 8-2. The Privateers held period leads of 2-0 and 5-2 and received a five point night from Matt Ormon who scored three goals and added a pair of assists. Alec Howie scored a pair and added 2 assists while Josh Nicholson scored once and added a couple of assists, Daniel LeBlanc added a short-handed marker and Daniel Kline were the other Privateer goal scorers. Joshua McCarther had a night in nets for the Colts which he hopes to correct quickly as he allowed 8 goals on 33 shots as the Colts actually outshot the Privateers 38-33. Tyler and Cooper Puma connected for the Colts. With the win, the Privateers go into their game in Sackville Monday night with a 6-4-1 record for 13 points and the potential to come out of Monday’s game tied with the Blazers for first place in the Fred Fox Division. Port Hawkesbury 4 Membertou 3
It was an incredible game in the Strait Friday evening as Lewis Taylor’s goal 56 seconds into overtime finally provided a verdict — a 4-3 Strait Pirates win over the Jr. Miners. It improved Port Hawkesbury to 6-1-0 on the season while the Jr. Miners fell to 5-2-1. Besides Taylor’s overtime winner, he scored another goal earlier in the game on the power-play while Brady MacNeil and Danny Gillis added single markers. bLake cox on the power-play, Kody Groves and Josh MacKay scored the other Jr. Miner goals who now return to Membertou for a game with the Pictou County Scotians Saturday evening while Port Hawkesbury hits the road for a game in Brookfield Saturday afternoon.
Valley Maple Leafs 3 Cumberland County Blues 1
The teams played a scoreless opening period before Alex Griffith put the blues up 1-0, 35 seconds into the middle period. Justin Banks then scored for the Leafs with 4:18 remaining in the second to knot the game at 1-1. Andrew McCarron and Brayden Hunt scored in the third period for the Leafs who won their third of the season and are now 3-6-0 on the season. Cumberland fell to 2-7-1. The Valley outshot the Blues 35-21.
