Blues lose all 3 in Cape Breton
Blues lose third straight in Cape Breton, Maple Leafs torn apart by Pens.
The Cumberland County Blues now have 27 games remaining in the 2022-2023 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Season and they are hopeful a weekend pair at home this coming weekend Oct 7-8) in Springhill against Eskasoni will go much better than their Cape Breton trip (Sept 30-Oct 2) this past weekend when they suffered three consecutive losses. The latest loss coming Sunday afternoon at the Dan K. Stevens Memorial Arena in Eskasoni as the Jr. Eagles doubled up the Blues 6-3. The game started out fine for the Blues as they jumped in front 2-0 on a pair of goals from Burke Beed and Aidan McBurnie, both on the power-play. Daymon Johnson scored for the Jr. Eagles to put his team one goal behind entering the second. The Jr. Eagles showed who was boss in the middle frame scoring five unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead after forty minutes. Noah MacKinnon and Sonny Kabatay both scored a pair. Four of the Eagles goals came in the opening half of the second before Kabatay’s second goal of the afternoon short-handed with only two minutes to play in the second put is team up 6-2. Beed’s second goal of the afternoon for the Blues was the only scoring in the third. Need finished with a three point afternoon as he also collected an assist. Eskasoni outshot the Blues 33-32.
East Hants 12 Valley Maple Leafs 2
The East Hants Penguins coming off a 6-5 overtime loss Friday evening at home tore through the Maple Leafs with a buzz-saw Sunday evening in Lantz. It was 3-2 Penguins with 12:53 left in the second period when Brody Fraser scored the first of seven consecutive goals for the Pens who went to the dressing room after forty minutes with a 10-2 lead. East Hants scored twice more in the third period to win it 12-2. Marshall Plandowski had a tremendous afternoon scoring three times and adding two assists while Morgan Lake scored twice and added a pair of assists, Nick Veinot scored twice as well while Fraser to go along with his goal, also added a pair of assists. Other East Hants goal scorers were Owen Cleary, Devin Meagher, Riley MacDonnell and Ryan Langlois all with single markers. Dawson Lavers scored both goals for the Leafs who were outshot 49-27.
