Elks looking impressive after three games

The Brookfield Elks are off to one of their best starts in several years as they defeated the Capstone Colts 5-3 at C.F.B. Shearwater Friday evening.  The Elks rallied from a 3-1 deficit to score four consecutive goals in the third period, two from Ben Fraser who netted the game winner with 8:09 remaining and another one on the power-play with 3:03 left in regulation.  Luke Jansen-Fraught and Will Stewart were the other third period snipers for the Elks.  Ethan Price tied the game at 1-1 for the Elks in the second period.  Trayner McCulloch put the Colts up 1-0 after twenty minutes and after Price’s goal for the Elks, Cole Renard put the Colts ahead 2-1 after forty minutes.  Riley Henman made it 3-1 Colts with 14:11 remaining in regulation before the Elks scored their four straight goals.  Dawson Blanchard was a key play-maker for the Elks assisting on four of their five markers.  The Elks now 2-1-0 on the season host the Liverpool Privateers in their home opener Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.  Elsewhere Friday night:

The East Hants Penguins have now been involved in two overtime games in the three which they have played and are 2-0-1 on the season.  Their latest overtime game came at home last night in Lantz as they sneaked by the Sackville Blazers 5-4 in a shoot-out with the shoot-out winner being scored by Owen Cleary.  East Hants lost at home in overtime in their season opener to Brookfield last week.  The Blazers entered the game 1–1-0 having lost to Liverpool and hanging on to defeat the Elks by a single goal Monday night in Sackville.  Friday in Lantz, the Blazers were up 2-0 on goals from Jack Meek and Degen Noble by the mid-way mark of the opening period before Noah Comeau scored for the Pens who trailed 2-1 after twenty minutes.  Ryan Langlois and Marshall Plandowski with his 9th point of the season put the Penguins ahead 3-2 after forty minutes.  Logan Colter with a short-handed effort less than four minutes into the third period made it 4-2 Pens before the Blazers struck for a pair from Jaden Hardie to force the overtime in which the teams were scoreless for five minutes before the shoot-out took place.  The Pens outshot the Blazers 45-37.
