Privateers narrowly get by Elks

Privateers now 3-0-0

It did not come easy but the Liverpool Privateers squeaked by the vastly improved Brookfield Elks Saturday afternoon at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield 3-2.  The Privateers were coming off a 4-0 shut-out win over the Valley Maple Leafs Friday night in Windsor.  Liverpool scored twice in the opening period vs the Elks on goals from Daniel Kline on the power-play and Alec Howie with his fourth of the weekend.  The Elks Luke Jansen-Fraught scored a man-advantage marker for the Elks in the second period but Daniel LeBlanc connected for the game winner for the Privateers on the power-play 5:01 into the third period.  With less than five minutes to play, Sam Rogers brought the Elks back to within a goal and they trailed 3-2 but the Privateers hung on for the win despite being outshot 34-24 by the Elks.  These same two clubs will meet again in Liverpool Saturday Oct 15 at 7:00 p.m.  The Elks are now 2-2-0 on the season with three of their games being decided by one goal.  Elsewhere Saturday night:

Port Hawkesbury  4   Membertou Jr. Miners  1

The Strait gave up a first period goal to Tye Clarke and saved all of their scoring for the third period as they trailed 1-0 going into the final twenty minutes of regulation but Keir Jordan tied it in the opening 31 seconds of the third and the Pirates then took advantage of costly penalties to the Jr. Miners as Matthew Raike, Matthew Ellis, and Cameron MacDonald all netted power-play goals, Ellis and MacDonald 21 seconds apart with under five minutes to play to seal the win.  The Jr. Miners outshot the Strait 32-27.  These same two clubs will clash again this Friday Oct 14 in the Strait at 7:30 p.m.

Cumberland  4    Eskasoni  3  (Shoot-out)

It took 10 shots in a shoot-out with the first nine all being stopped before Colby Titus netted the game winner for the Cumberland County Blues to give the Blues a 4-3 win over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles Saturday afternoon in Springhill.  The win for the Blues was their first of the season after four straight losses to open the season.  The teams were tied 1-1 after the first on goals from Titus for the Blues and Marcellus Francis for the Jr. Eagles.  Arlen Denny’s scored the lone goal of the second period to put the Eagles up 2-1 after two.  MacQueen Kendall then gave the Eagles a 3-1 advantage 2:27 into the third before Zackery Gould and Burke Beed with a power-play goal tied it for the Blue and sending the game into overtime where five-minutes of sudden-death regulation resulted in no scoring and that was it until Titus connected in the shoot-out.  Eskasoni now 2-0-1 on the season for five points while Cumberland is 1–4-0.
