Monumental come back for Jr. Eagles

The Eskasoni Jr. Eagles are beginning to make believers out of a large segment of followers of the Nova Scotia Jr. Hockey League after their sensational comeback against the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates on Friday night in the Strait.  Down 4-0 after a short-handed goal by the Pirates Cadyn Power with 13:20 remaining in the second period, the score stayed that way heading into he third period.  However the final 20 minutes was a totally different story with the Eagles rallying for four goals in regulation and winning the game 5-4 in a shoot-out.  The Jr. Eagles scored on 3 of 4 attempts in the shoot-out with Marcellus Francis connecting for the game winner while the Strait Pirates managed a pair of goals on 4 chances.  Other Strait Pirate goal scorers in the first period were Danny Gillis with a pair and Blake Hadley before Power put the Strait up 4-0 in the second.  It wasn’t hard to see that these two clubs only had one thing on their mind and that was Hockey as their were only two minor penalties called in the entire game.  Scoring for the Jr. Eagles besides Francis’s shoot-out winner were Jacob Denny with a pair, Kendall MacQueen and Dante Baque.  The Jr. Eagles outshot the Pirates 43-33 and are now 5-0-1 on the season for 11 points with the Strait Pirates falling to 4-1-1 for 9 points.  Elsewhere Friday night:
 
 
Capstone Colts   5     Liverpool Privateers  1
 
The Colts and Privateers met for the first time in regular season play this season with th Colts winning their 5th straight 5-1 over the Privateers who suffered their 3rd consecutive loss.  Sharpshooter Alec Howie put Liverpool up 1-0 with 9:48 left in the opening period but unfortunately it was all the scoring the Queens County Club would muster as the Colts sizzled back and scored 5 unanswered goals with 2 each in the first and third period and a single marker in the second.  Tyler Puma and Kelley Henman both scored and added an assist in the first period for the Colts who outshot Liverpool 34-32 and received another great game from Alec MacVicar in nets.  Liam Andrews with his fifth goal in 2 games and with an assist and joe Browne and Cooper Puma also with an assist also scored for the Colts who are now 6-0-1 and tied atop the Fox Division with the East Hants Penguins who are 5-0-2 - both giving 12 points.
 
 
Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs   10        Cumberland Blues  3
 
The Blues were thumped before a home audience in Springhill 10-3 by the Antigonish AA Munro Jr. Bulldogs.  Ray MacKinnon, Darren Waterman and Sam Grant with his first of two on the evening and Daniel MacKenzie for the Blues made it 3-1 Jr. Bulldogs after twenty minutes.  It was all Bulldogs in the second period as they took a 7-1 lead on 4 goals and no response from the Blues.  Will Fitzsimmons scored twice while also adding a pair of assists, Sam Grant scored the game winner and Sam MacNeil who also had an assist gave the Bulldogs their 7-1 lead entering the third.  In the third, Sam MacNeil scored his second marker of the game while Chris Keyes tallied while adding 2 assists and Bradley Armstrong rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Tate O’Reilly and Colby Titus scored the Blues to make the final 10-3.  The Blues fell to 1-8-0 on the season while Bulldogs improved to 2-2-0.
 
East Hants  6     Valley Maple Leafs  0
 
The Penguins maintained their first place tie with Colts at 5-0-2 for 12 points and first in the Fox Division with a 6-0 whitewashing of the Valley Maple Leafs who fell to 0-9-0.  Owen Cleary, Devin Meagher, Noah Comeau, Brody Fraser, Bruen Fisher and Cole Stewart all scoed single goals for the Pens who outshot the Maple Leafs 38-32 and Marcus Pettipas garnering the shut-out for the Pens.  Comeau, Fraser and Stewart all collected an assist for the Pens as well.
