Colts now 8-1-0

The Liverpool Privateers continued to struggle at home at the Queens Emera Centre Saturday night blowing a 4-1 to the Capstone Colts, allowing the Colts three goals in the final 12:05 to tie the game at 4-4, then lost it in a shoot-out as Trainer McCulloch connected to give the 8-1-0 Colts a 5-4 win and keep them tied with the 7-0-2 East Hants Penguins for first place in the Fred Fox Division.

 
Daniel LeBlanc opened the scoring for the Privateers to put them up 1-0 after one period.  Daniel Kline then connected 18 seconds into the second period for a 2-0 Privateer lead.  Carson Gallant who finished with a goal and two assists made it 3-0 Liverpool before Ryan Welsh who also had 2 assists scored for the Colts to make it 3-1 for the home team after two periods.  John Shubaly’s power-play marker put the Privateers up 4-1 2:28 into the third period but then came the Colts onslaught as Griffin Peers, Colin Goodwin who also had two assists and Riley Henman tied it at 4-4 with only 1:17 to play in regulation.  The loss left Liverpool 5 points behind both the Penguins and Colts for first place in the Fox Division.  The Colts outshot Liverpool 54-37.  Elsewhere Saturday:
 
 
East Hants  8   Brookfield   4
 
The Penguins are the only team not to lose in regulation through the first nine games but one of their overtime losses did come against the Elks who they defeated 8-4 in Brookfield Saturday afternoon.  The teams played it exceptionally close through the opening two periods as the Pens led only 5-4 after two.  It was 2-2 after one period.  Ben Fraser scored his 8th and 9th goals of the season for the Elks in the opening period while Nick Veinot and Blake Irvine tallied for the Pens.  To begin the second, Brody Fraser netted his fifth of the season and his first of two in the game while Irvine scored his second.  Owen Lancastert then brought the Elks back to within 1 and they trailed only 4-3 before Devin Meagher and Cale McClellan connected in the final minute for the 5-4 lead Pens going to the third period.  In the third, Brody Fraser, Logan Colter and Marshall Plandowski with his 7th of the season all replied unanswered for East Hants to give them the 8-4 win.  The 7-0-2 Pens outshot the 5-4-0 Elks 45-35.
 
Sackville  5     Valley   2
 
The 4-5-1 Sackville Blazers remain in fifth place in the Fred Fox Division despite their 5-2 win over the Valley Maple Leafs Saturday afternoon in Sackville.  Daniel Surette scored the first of his two goals on the game to give Sackville a 1-0 lead after the twenty minutes.  Brady MacLean why is playing to his utmost for the Leafs to date this season tied it for the Leafs before Surette’s goal to make it 2-1 Blazers at the end of two. Christopher Brown tied it for the Leafs at 2 with 8:18 having elapsed in the third period before Jaden Hardie scored the game winner for Sackville on the power-play with 6:35 to go in regulation.  The Blazers finalized their scoring with two goals in the final 1:04 from Degen Noble and Ethan Black.  Give credit to the Leafs as they skated hard the entire game and while not all shots were great scoring chances kept Sackville alert as the Leafs outshot the Blazers 58-41.  Dylan White played nets for Sackville stopping 56 of 58 shots.
