Purdy scores game winner

The Sackville Blazers nearly squandered a 4-1 lead during a holiday matinee act the Queens Place Emera Centre Friday afternoon but David Purdy’s goal with 1:05 remaining gave the Blazers a 5-4 win over the slumping Liverpool Privateers.  The Blazers went ahead 2-0 after one period on Jaden Hardie’s power-play goal and a marker from Ryan MacDonald.  They were up 3-1 after forty minutes as Degen Noble’s goal at 13:35 made it 3-1 after Nolan Greenlaw scored 22 seconds into the second period for the Privateers.  With 1:48 gone in the third period, Daniel Surette made it 4-1 for the Blazers before Carson Gallant and Aaron Lane brought Liverpool to within a goal at 4-3 but Purdy’s goal won it for the Blazers before a nail-biting end as John Shubaly tallied for the Privateers with a 22 seconds showing on the clock.  Liverpool outshot the Blazers 48-36.
