Hardie nets SO winner for Blazers

The Brookfield Elks continue to display a vastly and had-team to defeat in this 21-22 NSJHL Regular season despite their 4-3 shoot-out loss to the Sackville Blazers in Sackville Monday night.  The Elks are now 5-4-1 and tied with the 5-5-1 Liverpool Privateers for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Fred Fox Division as the season has now past it’s 1/3 mark in the schedule.  It was the third meeting of six between the Elks and Blazers with the team’s splitting their first two games by a 4-3 Sackville win, a 5-4 Brookfield win and then Monday night’s 4-3 shoot-out loss.  In fact, of the ten games played by the Elks this season, seven have been one goal games.

In Monday’s game, the goaltending was superb as Pablo De Larrinaga in the Elks nets turned away 46 of 49 shots while Bryson Uberroi turned away 53 of 56 shots directed at him by Brookfield.  Kyler Lohnes of the Blazers and Liam Ferguson of the Elks had the game tied 1-1 after twenty minutes.  Ferguson then scored again in the second to give the Elks a 2-1 lead after forty minutes.  Tyler Pottier and Duggan Gauthier then scored 34 seconds apart before the third period was six minutes old to put the Blazers in front 3-2 before Ben Fraser tied it for the Elks at 3-3 38 seconds after Gauthier’s goal.  It then took six shots with Jaden Hardie of the Blazers scoring on the home team’s final chance and the 4-3 win.  Both clubs will see what they can do to end Capstone’s eight-game winning streak as the Colts and Blazers meet at C.F.B. Halifax in Shearwater Friday night at 7:30 before the Colts travel to Brookfield for a 4:00 p.m. start on Saturday afternoon.  The Colts and Sackville conclude their weekend home and home Monday night in Sackville at 7:30 p.m.
