Colts 9 game winning streak snapped

Just like the Valley Maple Leafs winning their first game of the season Friday against Liverpool, all streaks must be stopped at one point or another in the course of a regular season.  Such was the case for the Capstone Colts Saturday afternoon in Brookfield as the Elks won their 6th of the season 5-2 over the Colts.  The Colts had their 9 game winning streak snapped at the hands of the 6-4-1 Brookfield Elks.  Will MacRae of the Colts and Dawson Blanchard who also had 2 assists for the Elks each scored in the first period.  The Elks took command in the second period as Cale MacLellan, Ben Fraser with his 11th goal of the season and Sam Rogers scored for Brookfield while Brayden Hooper-Richard tallied for the Colts.  Keegan Macumber scored for the Elks in the third period to finish the game’s scoring.  The Colts did outshoot the Elks 48-38.  Elsewhere Saturday night:

East Hants  4    Liverpool  3   (Overtime)

Coming off a 4-2 loss in Windsor against the Valley Maple Leafs Friday night, the Privateers played a more solid game at home Saturday night but despite taking a 3-1 lead against the Penguins mid-way through the second period, they allowed the Pens to rally with three straight goals including Marshall Plandowski’s 8th goal of the season and overtime winner with 1:40 gone in the five-minute sudden-death overtime period.  The Privateers were desperately trying to hang on but Bruen Fisher’s goal with 46 seconds left in regulation tied it for the now 9-0-2 Pens.  Ethan Wheeler and Logan Colter scored the other Penguin goals while Daniel Kline’s 9th goal of the year, Jude Greenwood and Dylan Patterson scored for the Privateers who are now 1-6-1 in their past eight games.

Port Hawkesbury  5   Membertou Jr. Miners  2

The Strait Pirates measured their second close win of the weekend over the Jr. Miners Saturday night in Membertou.  The Strait had won 3-2 Friday night at home and took a 3-0 lead Saturday on goals from Gregor Yoell who also added a pair of assists, Matthew Raike and Danny Gillis and never looked back.  The Jr. Miners did close to within a goal at 12:11 of the third on Blake Cox’s 7th marker of the season.  Cox’s goal came after Tye Clarke put the Jr. Miners on the board with 43 seconds to play in the second.  It was as close as the Jr. Miners would get as Danny Gillis and Keir Jordan who also recorded 2 assists scored 11 seconds part with less than 6 minutes to play to give the Strait their 5-2 win.  They outshot Membertou by a considerable margin 34-11.  The Strait with their two weekend wins are now 7-3-1 and in second place in the Rowe Division while the Jr. Miners fell to 4-8-0.
