Privateers pick up badly needed win

he Liverpool Privateers got what they so desperately wanted at C.F.B. Halifax at Shearwater as they defeated the first place Capstone Colts 4-3  in a shoot-out and improved their record to 6-6-2 for 14 points and sole position of third place in the Fred Fox Division Standings.  It also brought the Privateers out of a 1-6-1 funk which they had been mired in.  The Privateers are now back at home for a huge game with the Brookfield Elks tonight in Liverpool at 7:00 p.m. as the 6-4-1 Elks are one point back of the Privateers but hold three games in hand.
 
Friday night at Shearwater, Jude Greenwood gave the Privateers a 1-0 leader after one before the Colts Tyler Puma tied it at 1-1 after two periods.  The game went down to the final minutes as after Alec Howie scored his 12th of the season in the opening minute of the third period, Tyler Puma and then Benjamin Veinot with only 3:00 minutes left put the Colts up 3-2 but Daniel LeBlanc sent it into overtime 48 seconds later tying the game with 2:12 remaining.  There was no scoring in the five-minute sudden-death regulation and it then went four rounds before the Privateers pulled out the win. The Colts scored on their first shot, the Privateers on their third and attempt before Joe Osborne provided the soot-out winner.  The Privateers outshot the Colts 50-41. These two clubs have now played three games to date this season with the Colts winning 5-4 in a shoot-out, the Privateers last night and the Colts registering a 5-1 win at the beginning of the season meaning they have outscored the Privateers 12-9 in three games.

The Mutual Insurance Jr. Bulldogs jumped out in front 5-0 and never looked back outshooting the Strait 38-26 in the process.  Matthew Bercovici and Will Fitzsimmons who also had an assist put Antigonish up 2-0 after twenty minutes.  Chris Keyes, Bradley Armstrong and Luke Baldwin scored in the second to make it 5-0 after forty minutes.  Blake Hadley and Dave Matthews scored goals 1:30 apart to put the Strait within 3 goals but Will Mierau scored for the 8-2-0 Jr. Bulldogs to make the final 6-2.  Fitzsimmons goal was his 8th of the season.

The Penguins remain the only team in the league to not have lost in regulation and after last night’s win in Windsor are 10-0-2 on the season, 1 point behind the 1st Place 11-2-1 Capstone Colts.  The Pens allowed the Leafs the first goal of the game from Noelan Spink but then came right back with three consecutive goals Ethan MacVicar, Bruen Fisher with his 7th of the season to g along with 13 assists and Devin Meagher to lead 3-1 after twenty minutes.  Morgan Lake who also assisted on three goals scored to put the Pens up by two  after Kayden Kuryluk had brought the Leafs back to within one.  In the third, Fisher with his 2nd of the game, Marshall Plandowski with his 9th of the season to go along with 13 assists and fourth in the League Scoring Race.  Devin Meagher finished the game’s scoring with an empty net marker.  Dylan Schofield and Christopher tallied markers for the Leafs in the third.  The Penguins and Leafs have now played four games this season with the Pens winning all 4 while outscoring the Leafs 32-10 in the four games.  Noah Comeau collected 4 assists for the Pens giving him 13 on thee season while Connor Deluney collected a a pair of assists for the Leafs.

Zach Houston stole the night for the Scotians with two goals and two assists leading the 8-3-0 Scotians to a 6-2 win over Cumberland County.  The win ties the Scotians for 2nd place in the Rowe division with the 8-2-0 Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs.  Carter Hood was the other Scotian to have a big night for Pictou as he scored the game’s first goal and assisted on two others.  Ryan Frizzle, Luke Young and Houston with his 1st of the night gave Pictou a 4-1 lead after two.  Hoston with his 2nd and Joseph Mason finished the scoring for the Scotians in the third period.  River Sears-Tower scored for the Blues while Aidan McBurnie scored in the first for the Blue.
