Huge Win for Jr. Miners

Membertou Head Coach Ryan Boutilier knew his club needed this kind of win as shaky as it was until the third period Saturday night in Membertou as the Jr. Miners for the Jr.snapped a 2-2 draw and scored three times in the game’s final 12:32 to ice the Pictou County Scotians 5-2.  Jarrett Hicks and Blake Cox both scored once and added an assist for Membertou with Brady Doucette and Connor MacIntyre both scoring in the final 4:41 of the contest for the Jr. Miners.  Landon Clarke’s goal in the second gave the Jr. Miners a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.  The Jr. Miners held a 45-24 shots advantage.  For the Scotians Ryan Frizzle scored twice giving him 5 goals and 3 assists in the Scotians past five games.  The Jr. Miners are now 5-8-0 through 13 games for 10 points and will be hoping to climb even further in the standings tonight in Trenton at 6:00 p.m. as they meet up with the Scotians again.  The Scotians are 8-4-0 for 16 points tied with Antigonish for 2nd, one point behind first place Eskasoni and 1 point ahead of the fourth place Strait Pirates.
 
 
 
Brookfield  Elks  4     Liverpool  3
 
It is a true dog fight for positions five through 3 in the Fred Fox Division and the Brookfield Elks visited Liverpool Saturday night to squeeze out a 4-3 win over the hometown Privateers.  The Elks are now 7-4-1 for 15 points while the Privateers just coming off a huge win against 1st Place Capstone Friday evening fell to 6-7-2 for 14 points and fourth place.  The Sackville Blazers occupy 5th place with a 6-7-1 record for 13 points.  The teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening period before Ben Fraser put the Elks up 1-0 with 6:05 to play in the second.  The Privateers were not finished as Nolan Greenlaw scored a pair for the Privateers in the final 1:)5 to give Liverpool a 2-1 lead after forty minutes.  In the third, the Elks struck for three consecutive goals from Owen Lancaster, Ben Fraser and Mitchell King before Carson Gallant finished the game’s scoring for the Privateers.  Tyler Boyd had 3 assists for the Elks.
