Scotians give up 2 goal lead in final 5 minutes

The Pictou County Scotians no doubt are wishing they could replay the third period against the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles as a result of Sunday’s action in the NSJHL.  The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs with their win have now taken over sole position of first in the Sid Rowe Division.  The following are details on Sunday’s action:

The Scotians led this game 2-0 until there was only 4:57 remaining when the Jr. Eagles Sonny Kabatay scored his 31st goal of the season to go along with 36 assists for a league leading 67 points.  Kabatay also scored the shoot-out winner after Bryce McKenzie tied it for the 17-4-1 Jr. Eagles with 37 seconds remaining in regulation.  The teams played to a scoreless first period before Ryan Frizzle with his 16th of the season gave Pictou a 1-0 lead after two periods.  Blaise MacDonald put the Scotians up 2-0 early in the third but they could not hang on and the Scotians are now tied with the Membertou Jr. Miners for the fourth and final playoff berth in the Sid Rowe Division.  Hunter Chenhall played an outstanding game for the Jr. Eagles stopping 46 of 48 shots while Jack Cameron blocked 33 of 35 shots he faced in the Scotians net.

The Jr. Bulldogs won their 18th game of the season to seize control of first place in the Rowe as they beat up on the Strait pirates 7-3 taking 4-0 and 7-2 leads after the opening two periods.  Zachary Lorette who continues to play exceptionally strong for the Jr. Bulldogs racked up a goal and three assists for the winners while Luke Baldwin chipped in with a goal and two assists.  Other Antigonish goal scorers were Will Fitzsimmons, Ethan Twolan, Nick Marshall, Will Mierau and Bradley Armstrong.  The Strait Pirates who are hanging onto third place by the skin of their teeth had goals from Cadyn Power, Matthew Ellis and Blake Hadley.  The Strait are now 11-9-2 for 24 points, 2 up on the Scotians and Jr. Miners.
