East Hants wins in OT
In sub-arctic temperatures across the province Saturday only 2 of the 4 regularly scheduled NSJHL games were played. Port Hawkesbury and Eskasoni were pod in Eskasoni as were the Privateers and Elks in Brookfield. There were two games played and the following is more details on those games.
East Hants 3 Sackville 2 (OT)
The Penguins scored another huge win, this one in overtime as they nosed out the Blazers 3-2. It improved the Pens record to 16-4-3 for 35 points and a first place tie with the Capstone Colts who they had tripled up 6-2 on Friday night. Bruen Fisher scored his fourth goal in two games to put the Pens up 1-0 in the first before Ryan MacDonald tied it for the Blazers and the first period ended 1-1. Marshall Plandowski scored for the Pens less than four minutes into the second but Ryan MacIntyre’s goal for the Blazers knotted the game at 2-2 after forty minutes. Neither team could score a goal in the third period meaning a five minute sudden-death regulation period was necessary. The teams played 3:42 before Devin Meagher connected for the Pens to give them a 3-2 win. The Blazers fell to 12-13-3 four 27 points but still hang onto third place in the Fox Division. Grant Sanford blocked 36 of 38 shots for the Pens while Bryson Uberroi turned away 44 of 47 shots he faced for the Blazers. Noah Comeau also helped the Blazers with a pair of assists.
Membertou 8 Cumberland 4
The Cumberland County Blues lost an 8-4 decision for the second straight night as they continued their three-game Cape Breton Road trip. The Jr. Miners with the win improved to 10-14-4. They held period leads of 3-1 and 6-2. Connor MacIntyre and Alexander Chenhall both scored twice for the Jr. Miners while Coby McCarron, Liam Burke, Nathaniel Fuller and Drew Baldwin added single markers for Membertou. Cody McKay scored a pair for the Blues while Aiden Fisher and Burke Beed added singles.
