Liverpool 1 up on Blazers
The Liverpool Privateers have moved into sole position of third place in the Fred Fox Division while the Pictou County Scotians are now tied with the Membertou Jr. Miners for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division. Following is a recap of Sunday’s NSJHL Play from around the province:
Liverpool 5 Valley Maple Leafs 2
The Privateers are now 13-11-2 and in sole position of third place in the Fred Fox Division after their 5-2 trimming of the Valley Maple Leafs Sunday afternoon in Windsor. The Privateers and Leafs were scoreless after one period but the Privateers erupted for three second period goals from Malcom Bussey, Joe Osborne and Carson Gallant to take a 3-0 lead into the dressing room after forty minutes. The Leafs came out in the third and struck for a pair goals from Robbie Dowell and Ben McCarthy to trail only 3-2 into the dying stages before Shubaly scored his second of the afternoon and Devon MacDonald dumped one into an empty net with 13 seconds left in regulation to give the Privateers their 5-2 win. Alec Howie collected three assists for Liverpool who now lead the Sackville Blazers by a single point in the race for third in the Fox. Jaden Croft had a fantastic weekend in goal for the 4-20-2 Maple Leafs. In two losses he stopped 105 of the 115 shots he faced in back to back 5-2 losses. Aiden Durnford starting his first game against his former teammates stopped 30 of 32 shots to earn the win for the Privateers.
Pictou 6 Eskasoni 3
The County Scotians picked up a much needed win at home over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 6-3. The win ties the Scotians with the Membertou Jr. Miners for fourth and final playoff spot in the Sid Rowe Division. Eskasoni only led once during the contest and that was 3-2 with 6:57 left in the second period when Marcellus Francis scored but Camden Burgess and Luke Young moved the Scotians back in front 4-3 by the end of the second with a pair of goals within 2:58. Kinnon Williams had tied the game at 2-2 for the Jr. Eagles at 14:27 of the second. Thomas Kennalley and Zach Houston with his second of the game finished the Scotians scoring off in the third as they scored two unanswered goals, Houston’s into an empty net with 1:01 remaining for the 6-3 win. In the first period which Pictou led 2-1 after twenty minutes, Ethan Elms and Zach Houston with one second remaining scored between a goal by the Jr. Eagles Noah Mackinnon. Pictou and Eskasoni were to have played a make-up game in Pictou this evening but due to the the threatening weather, it has now been postponed. No 2nd make-up date has been confirmed.
