Basque scores OT winner for Eagles
Dante Basque scored the overtime winner and his second goal of the game for the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles Thursday night in Trenton to put the Eagles up 3-1 in the Sid Rowe Division Semi-Final in NSJHL Playoff action. The game was hard fought throughout and the Scotians led 3-1 at one point before the Eagles began their comeback. Basque scored his first of the game to tie it at 1-1 after Nate Supryka gave the Scotians a 1-0 lead in the first period. Thomas Kennaley scored twice including a short-handed goal in the second for the Scotians to give Pictou a 3-1 but the Eagles crawled back to within one when Marcellus Francis scored with only 2 seconds showing on the clock. Sam Mackinnon then scored 1:15 into the third to tie the game at 3-3 before Blaise MacDonald put the Scotians back on top 4-3 with 8:48 remaining. Curtis Novak scored for the Eagles 1:41 later to tie the game again at 4-4 and send it to overtime when Basque netted the game winner. Pictou lost two players in the game when Cale MacLaughlin was assessed match and gross misconduct penalties and Joseph Mason when he got into a fight. The Scotians outshot the Eagles 47-38 and will be hungry to stay alive when they go back to Eskasoni for Game 5 and a 7:30 start Saturday evening. If a 6th game is necessary, it will be played in Trenton Sunday night at 6:00 p.m.
