Bulldogs advance

The AA Munro Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs will play in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship for a second consecutive year and will also be looking to repeat as provincial champions after their thrilling 3-2 overtime win over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles Sunday night in Eskasoni.  Ben MacLellan’s goal 5:26 into sudden-death overtime gave Antigonish the win, a far cry different from their 8-0 win at home Saturday evening.  Will Mierau and Darren Waterman scored the other Bulldog goals.  Marcellus Francis and Kinnon Williams tallied for the Jr. Eagles.  Antigonish won the Best-of-Seven Division Final in four straight and are now perfect in the 22-23 playoffs with an 8-0 record.  The Jr. Bulldogs will now play either the Capstone Colts out of Cole Harbour or the Liverpool Privateers for the League and Provincial Championship.

Liverpool   2      Capstone    1

The Colts and Liverpool are currently tied in their Best-of-Seven Fox Division Final after Liverpool’s 2-1 win Sunday afternoon in Queens County.  After 11 goals were exchanged between the clubs Saturday night,  Sunday’s contest was exceptionally low scoring with plenty of sharp goaltending.  Aidan Durnford turned away 34 of 35 shots for the home team and Alec MacVicar 33 of 35 for the Colts.  Daniel Kline and Carson Gallant tallied for Liverpool while Ryan Welsh netted the Colts lone goal. Game 5 in this series goes Wednesday night in Cole Harbour at 7:30 p.m.
