Jr. Bulldogs win NS Championship
After a superb season of hockey by the Capstone Colts and Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs, with both teams only losing a combined eight games in regulation time in 60 games, there obviously had to be a loser and Saturday night in Antigonish, the Jr. Bulldogs put a masterful defensive performance allowing the Colts only 14 shots on net and winning the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Championship in seven games, 5-1 over the Colts. The Jr. Bulldogs were up 1-0 and 3-0 after the opening two periods as Darren Waterman, Jack Hayne and Ethan Twolan all connected to put the Bulldogs in the driver’s seat entering the third. Sam Grant then put the Bulldogs up 4-0 mid-way through the third before Will MacRae spoiled a shut-out bid by Cody MacEachern with 6:29 left in the third. Twolan with his second of the game to go along with an assist put one into an empty net with 1:24 to play. Alex MacVicar stopped 32 of 36 shots in the Colts net. The win for Antigonish marks their second straight appearance in the Don Johnson Memorial Cup and they will be looking to become Atlantic Junior Hockey Champs when they face-off against the host Liverpool Privateers Tuesday evening at 7:30 in the opening game of the 2023 Atlantic Junior Hockey Championships at Emera Queens Place in Liverpool.
