Privateers move to Bridgewater
Fridayday, July 7, 2023 – Bridgewater, NS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Junior B hockey is coming to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre
The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC) in Bridgewater will soon be home to exciting Junior B
hockey. Starting this September, the new team will host all their regular season and playoff games at the LCLC.
“We are excited to welcome in a franchise that is highly competitive and very well run,” said Kent Walsh, General Manager at the LCLC. “We know that hockey fans in Bridgewater and Lunenburg County are going to love the pace of the Junior B game, and the quality of the on-ice product that the team will bring.”
Competing in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League, the team had previously played out of Liverpool for the past ten years. The team’s owner, Jim Bottomley, was looking at several options closer to Halifax to reduce travel for the team.
“When space became available in our facility, Jim reached out right away – he was already in
conversation with two other possible landing spots in the Halifax Regional Municipality. So, ultimately, we are happy to have the opportunity to keep the team on the South Shore and support it going
forward.”
Bottomley is no stranger to Bridgewater, having served as the coach of the former Junior A Lumberjacks team during its early years in the community. Jim was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame in 2015 for his contributions to the game both on and off the ice.
“We look forward to engaging the community and putting a winning product on the ice that will challenge Nova Scotia and the Atlantic Championship,” said Jim Bottomley, Owner.
A team name announcement and kick-off event for fans and volunteers will be held at the LCLC on Thursday, July 13th at 6 pm. Game dates and opportunities to meet the team or become involved as a volunteer will be announced at a later date.
