NSJHL Regular Season opens this evening on 4 fronts
The 2023-24 version of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League’s Regular Season gets underway on four fronts. Tonight’s 4 games are only the first of 32 regular season games but remain vitally important, as all you have to do is look back at last season when the Brookfield Elks and Sackville Blazers finished tied for fourth in the Fred Fox Division with 14-13-3 records and 31 points apiece with Sackville making the playoffs because of having a better regular season record against the Elks. The South Shore Lumberjacks formerly the Liverpool Privateers util their move to Bridgewater in June, finished a single point up on the Elks and Blazers with 32 points. As you can see, it doesn’t matter whether the games are early in the season, a cold winter night in January or a late regular season game, every single point earned is exceptionally valuable.
The Fred Fox Division features two games this evening with Sackville travelling to East Hants for a 7:30 start and Brookfield travelling to C.F.B. Shearwater for a 7:30 game. Two intradivision games are also scheduled with Liverpool in Port Hawkesbury at 7:30 and the Valley Maaple Leafs going up against the Cumberland County Blues in a 7:30 start in Springhill. The Sid Rowe Division was just as tight from third to fifth place as Pictou, Port Hawkesbury and Membertou finishing separated by 4 points. The big surprises last year, were the Brookfield Elks who showed they were o longer push-overs and the fall of the Membertou Jr. Miners to fifth place after finishing first or second for so many consecutive years. As you can see the first of what will be a couplewfoundlande hundred games between now and late February will show who has the strength to make it to the playoffs and who will be strong enough to advance to the Don Johnson Memorial Cup in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland in late April. The Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs are the defending Don Johnson Cup Champions from 2022-23 season.
