Blues win in overtime

The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League roared into it’s second week of regular season play with four games on Friday, Sept 22/23.

 
The Capstone Colts and Valley Maple Leafs played to a 2-2 draw through 40 minutes before the Colts scored a pair of unanswered goals in the final period to escape with a 5-3 win at the C.F.B. Shearwater Rink.  Cooper Puma who finished the game with a goal and a pair of assists for the Colts scored the game winner before Trayner McCulloch added his second of the evening, an insurance marker on the power-play with 1:40 to go in regulation.  Cole Good also scored twice in the first period for the Colts who outshot the Maple Leafs 34-26.  For the Leafs, Christopher Brown, Justin Banks and Colin Parker all scored single markers.  In other Friday games:

Sonny Kabatay put the Jr. Eagles up 1-0 after twenty minutes while Kabatay with his second of the game in the middle period to go along with teammate Curtis Fogarty’s goal game the Jr. Eagles a 3-2 lead after two periods after Callum MccLellan scored twice for the Blues.  Mattix McBurnie scored for the Blues in the third period before Reese MacDonald’s overtime winner gave the Blues a 4-3 OT win.  Cumberland outshot Eskasoni 51-48.

Nate Supryka of the Scotians and Matthew Bervcovici for the Jr. Bulldogs scored first period goals to tie the game 1-1 after twenty minutes before the Bulldogs exploded for three unanswered goals in the second from the sticks of Tully Grant, Owen Forsythe, and Bradley Armstrong to go up 4-1.  Matt Carson brought the Scotians back to within one in the third before Will Normandeau and Will Mierau scored for Antigonish to give the Bulldogs a 6-2 win.  The Bulldogs outshot the Scotians 37-22.

The Penguins rifled 49 shots at the Jr. Miners net and walked away with a 5-1 win in Lantz.  Jayson Hanson provided the Pens with an early 1-0 lead before Devin Meagher, Owen Cleary and Morgan Lake scored second period goals to put the Pens up 4-0.  With only 30 seconds left in the second, Landon Clark provided the Jr. Miners with their only marker of the game.  Brody Fraser’s power-play goal for East Hants rounded out the game’s scoring in the third.  Marcus Pettipas stopped 30 of 31 shots he faced in the East Hants net while Andrew Burke turned back 44 of the 49 shots he faced for the Jr. Miners.  Morgan Lake also contributed with 2 assists to go along with his goal while Ryan Langlois and Logan Durno both collected a pair of assists for the winners.
