Cumberland-Eskasoni - Game of the week
The Committee had a more difficult choice of choosing “The Game of the Week” in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League for the week of Sept 22-25.
Three games were reviewed in depth and they were the Cumberland Blues win over Eskasoni in Overtime Friday, Set 22/23, The Strait Pirates 3-2 win over Brookfield Saturday Sept 23/23 and the Capstone Colts 2-1 win over the the Pictou County Scotians Sunday, Sept 24/23.
The final decision is that the Cumberland-Eskasoni game of Friday, Sept 22 had to be chosen as the Blues won 4-3 in overtime thanks to a power-play goal by Reece MacDonald 2:34 into the five-minute sudden death overtime period. Eskasoni led 1-0 after one period, 3-2 after two periods before the Blues tied it in the third before MccLellan’s goal in overtime. Both goaltenders were strong as the Blues Ryan Weitzel stopped 45 of 48 shots and Patrick Hinchey blocking 48 of the 51 he faced.
