Greencorn registers shut-out

It was a light schedule of games in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Friday evening with only two games played.

At C.F.B. Shearwater, the Colts improved to 4-0-0 on the season with a 6-3 win over the Strait Pirates.  The Colts led 1-0 and 3-1 after the first and second periods  Benjamin Veinot scored two of the Colts first three goals with Owen McDermid adding the other.  A short-handed effort by Callum McClellan was the only Pirate goal through 40 minutes.  In the third Liam Andrews and Cooper Puma scored for the first place Colts and pushed the Colts leads to 5-1.  Danny Gillis and Matthew Ellis then netted a pair for the Pirates while Matt Jessome scored one into an empty net to finalize the game’s scoring.  The loss for the Pirates marked their second in four games this season.
 
South Shore Lumberjacks   7      Valley Maple Leafs   0
 
Keegan Greencorn stopped 31 of 31 shots for the South Shore as his team went onto to thump the Leafs 7-0.  Owen Osborne and David Graham made it 2-0 Lumberjacks after 20 minutes before the South Shore team really went to work taking a commanding 6-0 lead after two periods.  David Graham with his second of the night and Daniel Kline, both on the power-play made it 4-0 before Aaron Lane scored a pair to give the Lumberjacks a 6-0 lead after forty minutes.  Joe Osborne’s power-play goal was the only one scored in the final period for the now 1-1-0 Jacks.  The Leafs pulled Jaden Croft after 40 minutes after he had allowed 6 goals n 26 shots.  Jackson Murphy played the third in nets for the Leafs and stopped  12 of 13 shots.  The Leafs after an opening night win in Cumberland 4-0, have now lost three in a row.
