Pens win and lose in Cape Breton
The East Hants Penguins were on the road TO cape Breton for two games this weekend in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Play. The left Cape Breton with their first loss of the season and a 4-2 win over the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles.
Saturday at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre, the Pens were tied with the Jr. Miners at 1 after the opening period and trailed by a goal 3-2 after forty minutes. A collapse in the third period saw the Jr. Miners pot 3 goals to the Pens 1 and an eventual 6-3 loss. Blake Snow of the Jr. Miners and Brody Fraser scored first period goals for their respective clubs before Devin Meagher put East Hants ahead 2-1 in the second period. However before the period was complete, Ryland Hanrahan and Landon Clark put the Jr. Miners up 3-2. Nathaniel Fuller with the game winner made it 4-2 Membertou before Devin Meagher scored his 2nd of the night for the Pens to bring them back to within a goal. Adam Hicks and Landon Clark with his second of the night scored late for the Jr. Miners to give them their 6-3 win. Fuller of the Jr. Miners besides his pair of goals, also recorded an assist while Andrew Burke stopped 24 of 27 shots in the Membertou nets.
East Hants 4 Eskasoni 2
The Pens moved to 4-1-0 on the season Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 doubling of the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles. Devin Meagher scored his third of the weekend for the Pens short-handed in the opening period while James Jones also scored short-handed for the Jr. Eagles to leave the teams ted 1-1 after the opening period. Blake Irvine’s game-winner for the Pens gave them a lead in which they never relinquished while Devin Meagher gave the Pens a 3-1 lead after forty minutes. In the third period James Jobes and Morgan Lake scored goals for their respective clubs to give the Pens their fourth win of the season.

Pictou 3 Membertou 2
The Scotians Matt Carson and the Jr. Miners Jarrett Hicks made it -1 after the opening period before Keagan Dalton scored made it 2-1 Scotians after two periods. Dalton with his first of two on the evening secored along with Hicks who scored hs second of the game to cap the game’s scoring with Pictou winning 3-2. Lucas Fraser stopped 31 of 34 shots for the Jr. Miners while Blake MacLellan and Kaleb Melanson both recorded 2 assists on the evening.
Antigonish 6 Cumberland County Blues 2
The Blues stayed with the Jr. Bulldogs through 50 minutes at the arena in Antigonish as their goaltender Ryan Weitz stopped 50 of 56 shots but a pair of goals by the Jr. Bulldogs Owen Juurlink and Zachary Lorette with under two minutes left in regulation gave Antigonish their 6-3 verdict. The Bulldogs scored 5 of their 6 goals in the final period with Bradley Armstrong notching a pair and an assist while Cameron Bell put the Bulldogs up 4-1 in a span of 1:02. Alex Herrett scored the lone goal of the period for the Blues who fell to 2-3-0 on the season while being outshot 56-25.
