Colts win a pair in Cape Breton

The Shearwater based Capstone Colts extended their winning streak to six games with a pair of wins in Cape Breton Thanksgiving weekend.  The Colts were in Membertou Saturday night, it was a close game with the exception of the first period when the Colts took a 4-1 lead on goals from Liam Andrews, Owen McDermid, Cole Good and Xavier Coggins.  Alec Campbell scored for the Jr. Miners.  At the end of the second period, a pair of goals in the middle frame left the Jr. Miners trailing 4-3 as Nathaniel Fuller and Landon Clark scored for Membertou.  The Colts made it 5-3 in the third before the Jr. Miners scored to move within a goal at 5-4.  Benjamin Veinot and McDermid scored late goals for the Colts to make the final 7-4.  The Colts outshot the Jr. Miners 45-28.  The Colts and Penguins are now tied with 10 points with the Penguins having played one more game and currently sit at 5-1-0.

Jona Brace earned his first shut-out of the season Sunday afternoon in Eskasoni as the Colts with 2 2nd period goals made them stand and they went on to blank the Jr. Eagles 5-0.  The two goals came 49 seconds apart in the second off the sticks of Benjamin Veinot and Xavier Congress.  The Colts put their power-play into high gear in the third scoring three times with the man advantage as Colin Goodwin, Jack Dulong and Benjamin Veinot with his second of the afternoon to go along with an assit.  Two games were scheduled for later Sunday afternoon and evening.  The South Shore Lumberjacks and Pictou County Scotians faced-off at 3:30 at the Pictou County Health and Wellness Centre.  Sunday night the Brookfield Elks were visiting Antigonish.
 
Monday night
 
A huge game in Sackville Monday night at 7:30 p.m. as the 5-1-0 East Hants Penguins try to claim a share of first place in the Fred Fox Division with a game against the 2-2-1 Sackville Blazers.
