Fraser, Rogers and Richardson pace Elks

For a team which finished the 22-23 Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League Season with a 21-8-1 record for 43 points and second place in the Sid Rowe Division, the 23-24 start is not something Eskasoni Head Coach Keiran Fogarty was expecting in six games.  The Eagles are 0-5-1 for a single point.  Coming off a 3-2 loss to the Valley Maple Leafs in Windsor Friday night, the Eagles went to Brookfield Saturday afternoon and were hammered 12-1 by the Elks who recorded their first win of the season after three losses.  Brookfield was led by a seven point afternoon from Ben Fraser who recorded two goals and five assists and Sam Rogers who scored a pair of goals and three assists for a five point afternoon.  Hayden Richardson connected for a hat trick and one assist.  Other Brookfield goals were scored by Will Stewart, Calem McAndrew, Aiden Gloade, Noah Harrison and Evan Morash.  The Elks held period leads of 3-2 and 7-3 while outshooting the Jr. Eagles 54-33.  Luke Baldwin scored a pair for Eskasoni while Joshua Novak added the Eagles other goal.  Sam Nicholls had 3 assists for the Elks.  The Elks are 1-3-0 to start the 23-24 season after missing the playoffs in a tie-breaker to the Sackville Blazers as both clubs finished with the same amount if points and wins.

The Bulldogs won their 6th in a row to begin the season and led the Jr. Miners 3-0 and 3-1 after the first and second periods.  Will Mierau scored a pair for the Bulldogs and Luc Sampson one in the first period.  The Jr. Bulldogs first two goals came in a span of 32 seconds after the game’s opening face-off.  Landon Clark put the Jr. Miners on the board in the second period.  In the final period, Brody MacPherson put the Bulldogs back up by three goals before Ryland Hanrahan and Alexaner Chenhall scored for Membertou to make the final 4-3 Bulldogs.  Sam Grant picked up 3 assists for Antigonish.  Ryan MacDonald turned away 26 of 29 shots shots for the winners while Andrew Burke turned away 36 of 40 shots he faced in the Jr. Miners net.  Membertou is now tied with Cumberland for third place in the Rowe Division with identical records of 2-4-0 whlle the Strait Pirates are 2-5-0 for four points as well.
