Leafs and Colts suffer heartbreaking losses

It was a wild day of action in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League on Sunday.  The most heartbreaking defeat and this writer will let you be the judge cane either in Lantz or Antigonish.  In Lantz at the East Hants Sportsplex, Brody Fraser scored his second of the game, this one in overtime as the Penguins rallied to defeat the Capstone Colts.  The Colts built a 3-1 lead with 2:49 having elapsed in the third period.  Colt goal scorers were Liam Andrews who scored short-handed, Ryan Welsh and Cole Good.  The Colts had period leads of 2-1 as no scoring was done in the second period.  Other goal scorers for the Penguins were Noah Comeau and Devin Meagher.  East Hants is now 8-1-0 for 16 points and holds down first place in the Fred Fox Division while the Colts suffered their second overtime loss of the season and are now 6-0-2 for 14 points.  The Colts outshot the Penguins 39-38.

In another heartbreaking game, the Maple Leafs let 4-1 and 5-3 leads slip through their fingers and ended up losing 6-5 when Nick Marshall scored for the Bulldogs with a single second showing on the clock in regulation to give Antigonish a 6-5 win. Terran Baillie, Noah MacCumber, Ben McCarthy and Nashon Thomas scored the Leafs 4 goals in the opening period while Matthew Bervcovici and Owen Forsythe scored for the Bulldogs.  In the second period which ended with the teams tied at 5-5, Cameron Bell scored short-handed for the bulldogs while Sam Grant and Will Fitzsimmons added power-play goals.  Cole Stewart had the lone goal for the Leafs.
Only one goal in the third and it was the last second goal by Marshall.  The Bulldogs who won their 7th in a row to begin  the season outshot the Maple Leafs 49-32.

The Blazers improved to 4-2-2 after their win over the Scotians who fell to 4-3-0.  Jaden Hardie who would also add two assists scored in the first for the Blazers while Nate Supryka scored with less than two minutes to play in the first to leave score deadlocked at 1-1.  In the second period Ryan MacIntyre, Adam Maillet and Tyler Pottier tallied for the Blazers while John Kay Martin scored the Scotians second and final goal.  The Blazers fifth and final goal was netted by Zachary Jenkins.  The Blazers outshot the Scotians 42-30 with Ben Etsell stopping 28 of 30 in the Blazers net and Brandon Connors 37 of 42 for the Scotians.

The Strait Pirates who fell to 2-5-0 were tied with the Lumberjacks at 2-2 after forty minutes but a four goal explosion in the third for the South Shore while holding the Strait scoreless gave the Blazers their 6-2 win.   The teams played to a scoreless draw in the opening period and they were tied 2-2 after forty minutes.  Cohen Westlake who scored once but also added 3 assists and Alec Howie connected for the Lumberjacks while Danny Gillis and Callum MacLellan scored for the Strait..  The four third period goals for the South Shore were netted by Joe Osborne, Daniel LeBlanc, Brennan Coleman and Aaron Lane.
