Bulldogs improve to 12-0-0

Plenty of offence to go around Saturday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League with two winning teams scoring 8 goals each and another winner notching 7.  Here is a look at the games:

Special teams played a vital role at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex in Brookfield Saturday afternoon as the Elks beginning to find their groove scored six of their eight goals on the power-play and another one short-handed to double up the Pictou County Scotians 8-4.  Three of the Scotian goals also came via the power-play.  The Elks improved their season’s record to 4-3-1 as Noah Harrison scored a hat-trick, all on the power-play, Calem McAndrew a power-play goal and a short-handed marker for the Elks.  Also scoring for the Elks were Sam Nicholls, Jack Sullivan and Sam Rogers.  Nicholls and Rogers were both power-play goals as well.  Ben Fraser added 3 assists for the Elks as well. For the Scotians, Matt Carson and Thomas Kennaley and Nate Supryka all had power-play goals with Kennaley adding another single marker.  The game was a testy affair especially in the third period with 119 penalty minutes handed out including 4 game misconducts, a match penalty which goes to any player believed to be deliberately attempting to injure another player as well as three fighting majors.  The Elks had period leads of 5-1 and 6-3 and outshot the Scotians 47-42.

In another testy affair that saw 144 penalty minutes dished out, the Jr. Bulldogs defeated the Lumberjacks 8-3.  South Shore did lead 2-1 after the first period thanks to goals from Brennan Coleman and cohen Westlake while Tully Grant who would go on and added a pair of assists tallied for the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs took a 4-3 lead after forty minutes on goals from Zachary Lorette, Will Fitzsimmons and Sam Grant.  The Bulldogs then went to work in the third scoring four unanswered goals from Zachary Lorette, Owen Flemming, Sam Grant and Will Fitzsimmons with his second of the evening.  In total for the game, Grant registered 5 points as he also collected 3 assists while fitzsimmons to go along with his pair added two assists.  The Bulldogs outshot South Shore 45-32.  As far as penalties were concerned, there were 3 misconducts, 9 game misconducts and 3 major penalties for fighting.  Antigonish improved to 12-0-0 while the South Shore is now 4-4-0.
 
Sackville   7   Membertou   2
 
In an early Saturday afternoon start in Sackville, the Blazers went to 5-2-2 after defeating the Jr. Miners.  Jaden and Justin Hardie scored in the first period for the winners while Degen Noble added a pair with other goals going to Zachary Jenkins, Will Meek and Noah Sutherland.  Ben Etsell turned away 39 of 41 shots for the Blazers who outshot Membertou 62-41.  Brady Doucette and Landon Clark tallied for the Jr. Miners.
