Lumberjacks win 5-4
After losing in overtime 3-2 to the Capstone Colts Friday evening at C.F.B. Shearwater, the South Shore Lumberjacks boarded the bus for a long road trip and a make-up game with the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles Saturday afternoon in Eskasoni. The Lumberjacks defeated the Jr. Eagles 5-4 and improved to 5-4-1 for eleven points. There were no goals scored in the opening period and the teams exchanged two goals apiece in the second period before the Lumberjacks stormed out of the gates in the third to take a 5-2 lead only to have to hang on and win 5-4. Scoring for the South Shore were Cohen Westlake, Brennan Coleman in the second period and in the third, markers were recorded by Elijah Leinwand, Daniel Kline with a power-play goal and Jake Lethbridge. For the Jr. Eagles, James Jobes recorded a pair of goals and an assist while James Wolodka and J.C. MacDonald added single goals. Keagan Geizer picked up 3 assists in he loss for the Jr. Eagles while John Shubably recorded a pair of helpers for the Lumberjacks. Westlake and Kline both recorded assists to go along with their goals. The Lumberjacks now return home to play six of their next seven games at home starting with a game against the defending Atlantic Junior Champions the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs Saturday Nov 4 in Bridgewater.
Brookfield Elks 4 Membertou Jr. Miners 2
One other game in Cape Breton Saturday involving the Brookfield Elks and Jr. Miners with the Elks skating away with a 4-2 win despite being outshot by the Jr. Miners 38-32. The teams were tied 1-1 after twenty minutes thanks to goals by Sonny Kabatay for the Jr.Miners and Calem McAndrew’s short-handed effort for the Elks. In the second period, the teams exchanged goals 27 seconds apart as Evan Morash tallied for the Elks and Drew Baldwin for the Jr. Eagles. In the third Aiden Gloade scored the winning goal for the Elks on the power-play and Sam Rogers added an insurance marker with slightly less than five minutes to play to give the Elks their 4-2 win.
