Scotians win in OT

The Pictou County Scotians continue to show they will be a force to deal with come playoff time as they scored their second 3-2 over the weekend, this one in overtime over the Membertou Jr. Miners.  The win was the Scotians 12th in 18 games and moved them to within five points of first in the Sid Rowe Division behind the defending Atlantic Champions the Antigonish Bulldogs.  Camdyn Burgess opened the game’s scoring for the Scotians before Alec Campbell tied at 1-1 after the first period for the Jr. Miners.  The teams exchanged another pair of goals in the middle frame with Alec Campbell scoring his second of the game for the Jr. Miners and Cale MacLaughlin for the Scotians.  That was all the scoring until Kyler Lohnes scored in the five-minute 3 on 3 sudden death period for the Scotian after only 1:11 had elapsed.  The Jr. Miners outshot the Scotians 42-41.  The one point for the overtime loss gives the Jr. Miners a 9-7-1 record, good for fourth place, 3 back of the Strait Pirates and five behind the Scotians.

The Valley Maple Leafs came to play Sunday afternoon in Eskasoni but despite outshooting the Jr. Eagles 34-28, fell 4-0 meaning they were 0-3-0 on their weekend Cape Breton road trip. The Jr. Eagles improved to 7-6-0 on the season.  Curtis Novak and James Jobes scored first period goals for the Jr. Eagles.  Joshua Novak made it 3-0 in the second before Keagen Geizer rounded out the game’s scoring in the third period.
