A tie for game/s of the week - Nov 8-15
The Executive Committee responsible for choosing the game of the week is finding it more difficult with each passing week with the calibre of play being demonstrated in league games. To say this week was tough would be an understatement, however after lengthy discussion and the examination of all factors, for the first time this season there is a two-way tie for game of the week:
The 6-5 shoot-out win by the Capstone Colts over the Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs in a rematch of last year’s provincial championship final in Antigonish and the 3-2 sudden-death overtime win by the Pictou County Scotians Sunday night in Trenton over the Membertou Jr. Miners.
Fri Nov 10/23
Capstone-Antigonish — teams were tied through 65 minutes of hockey which of course includes the five-minute sudden death period. Before it was over, it took Benjamin Veinot of the Colts to score on the fifth shot of the shoot-out to win it 6-5 for the Colts. The Colts also played well on special teams scoring a pair of short-handed goals.
Sun Nov 12/23
Tyler Lohnes scored 1:11 into the five minute sudden death to give the Scotians a 3-2 win and their 12th win of the season. The Jr. Miners outshot the Scotians 42-41.
It should be noted the Saturday afternoon Nov 11 game in Bridgewater between the South Shore Lumberjacks and Scotians almost forced a three-way tie but didn’t quite make it a three-way tie. The Scotians won their 11th of the season 3-2 in regulation over the Lumberjacks. Eli James was outstanding in the Scotians net stopping 44 of the 46 shots he faced.
