Strait ties game at 3-3 late before South Shore wins
The South Shore Lumberjacks on a late third period goal from Daniel Kline with 1:33 left, broke a 3-3 tie with the Port Hawkesbury Strait Pirates Saturday evening in Bridgewater to secure a 5-3 win. Alec Howie with his second marker of the game had an empty netter with 0.39 seconds remaining in regulation. Joe Osborne and Howie with his first both scored power-play goals in the opening period to give the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead after one period. Danny Gillis scored his 11th of the season to pull the Strait back to within one with 11:27 to play in the second period. Owen Cleary then put the Lumberjacks back up by two with 90 seconds to play in the second. The Strait Pirates coming off a close 3-2 win over the Valley Maple Leafs in Windsor Friday night, were not finished as they scored twice to tie the game at 3-3 as Gillis scored his second giving him 12 on the season and Landon MacIntosh scored his 11th to tie the game at 3-3 before Kline’s game winner. South Shore outshot Port Hawkesbury 39-31 and took the two game season series in two straight, outscoring the Strait Pirates 11-5 in their two victories.
Sackville Blazers 4 Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 1
The Blazers received goals from Degen Noble, Logan Mitchell, Bailey Conrad and Jaden Hardie all in the first period and defeated the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 4-1 in Sackville early Saturday evening. James Jobes tallied for the Jr. Eagles with 2:22 left in regulation. Noble and Mitchell’s goals both came on the power-play for the Blazers who are now 8-4-3 for 19 points, five back of East Hants and seven behind the Colts in the Fred Fox Division. They are also only two points ahead of the Lumberjacks who occupy fourth. Sackville outshot Eskasoni 50-33 and will wrap up their season series with the 7-8-0 Jr. Eagles this Sunday in Eskasoni. Before their three-game Cape Breton road trip next weekend, the Blazers will have to contend with the 15-1-1 Antigonish Jr. Bulldogs Monday night 7:30 in Sackville.
