Critical Games for many teams

The Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League is only two weeks and four days from the annual Christmas break so pressure is building on teams to have a solid run in attempting to ensure as many points are collected prior to heading into the final two months of the regular season.

The Antigonish Munro Jr. Bulldogs after a 5-3 win over Sackville Monday night are in Shearwater tonight to play the Captone Colts at 7:30 at the C.F.B. Shearwater Rink.  These same two teams played for the Nova Scotia Junior Championship last spring and head into tonight’s game with near perfect records.   The Colts are 12-1-2 for 26 points and first place in the Fox Division while the Jr. Bulldogs are 16-1-1 for 33 points and hold down first place in the Rowe Division.

Action elsewhere has the 8-5-3 Sackville Blazers starting their three game road trip to Cape Breton this weekend with a 7:30 game in Port Hawkesbury against the third place Pirates who are 12-7-0 for 24 points.

In Windsor, a critical game for the Valley Maple Leafs and Brookfield Elks.  The Leafs have 7 points and Elks 11 points although the Elks have two games in hand and both clubs will need to put together a string of points as they aim for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Fox Division.  The Leafs after last Friday’s 3-2 loss at home to the Strait Pirates despite outshooting the Strait 46-22.

The other Friday night game will be in Eskasoni at 7:30 where the Pictou County Scotians will be seeking their 14th win in twenty games against the 7-8-0 Jr. Eagles.  Game Time is 7:30 p.m.
