Pens and Colts remain deadlocked for first in Fox

The Pictou County Scotians presently have the discipline handed down to them by the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey Leagues Executive Council from last week under appeal and until a decision is reached on that appeal, the Scotians maintain their current record.  As a result in Windsor at the John Paris Jr. Rink Friday evening, the Scotians despite being outshot by the Valley Maple Leafs 58-44 defeated the Leafs 4-3 to record their 15th win of the season against 7 losses.
 
The game despite fans not seeing great end to end hockey with crisp passing and excellent scoring chances,  was still exciting.  It marked the second one goal loss of the year for the Leafs to the Scotians who had earlier defeated the Valley 3-2 in overtime in Trenton.  Pictou led 1-0 after the opening period on a goal by Jack Tompkins  Early in the second, the Scotians went up 2-0 on a beautiful 2 on 1 play involving Nate Supryka and Cal Maxner.  For Supryka it was his 1st of three that he would score on the evening.  It was also Maxners first assist of three he would collect on the evening.  Nick Goodwin on a great move around the Scotians defence brought the Leafs back to within one goal as after beating the Scotians defence, went around the Pictou net and jammed it home.  The Scotians however went back in front 3-1 with Supryka scoring again on a sensational 3 on1 play with under four minutes to go and that is the way the second period concluded.  Ryder Tolson brought the Leafs to within a single goal as he and Tarran Bailey teamed up and after three great chances, Tolson scored.  The Leafs ran into penalty difficulties as they took two in a row, with Ryder Tolson taking one, only seconds after the initial Leafs penalty.  It cost them as the Scotians Thomas Kennaley scored to make it 4-2 on the power-play.  The Leafs fought back again as Nick Oickle streaked down the right side and blistered a shot past the Scotians net to bring the Leafs back to within one at 4-3.  They pulled their goalie Jayden Croft with 1:48 to play and took a 30 second time-out.  Despite dominating play in the final 1:48, the home team could not score the equalizer as the Scotians won 4-3.  The Leafs will be back in action Sunday evening in Windsor as they face the powerful first place East Hants Penguins in a 7:30 start.

The Penguins and Colts remain locked  in a tie for first place as the Pens upended the Eskasoni Jr. Eagles 5-2 to record their 14th win in 18 games.  The Eagles actually led 2-1 after the opening frame but from that point could do no additional scoring as the Penguins roared back with four consecutive goals, three in the second and their final one in the third.  Brody Fraser, Hayden Tamm, Davis Cooper, Logan Durno and Noah Comeau tallied for the Penguins while the Eagles received goals from Nathaniel Fuller and Keegan Geizer.  The Pens outshot the Eagles 47-21 with Andrew Burke being sharp in the Eagles net and not allowing the Pens run up the score.  Durno and Comeau also both added an assist while Nick Veinot recorded three assists for the Penguins.
 
 
Colts  7      Port Hawkesbury   4
 
Riley Henman scored three times for the Colts including a short-handed goal as his Colts outscored the Strait Pirates 7-4 at the Civic Centre in Port Hawkesbury.  Henmans first goal in the opening period tied the game 1-1 after Matthew Ellis opened the games scoring for the Pirates,  Liam Andrews with his first of two on the night put the Colts up 2-1 and Cole Goods marker made it 3-1 Colts before Cadyn Power pulled the Strait to within one at the end of the first period.  The Pirates tied the game at 3-3 as Matthew Ellis scored his second of the night for the Pirates 26 seconds into the second period.  Liam Andrews then put the Colts up 4-3 and they never looked back as Henman scored two more and Ryan Welsh sandwiched one between Henmans two and the Colts were up 7-3 after forty minutes.  Zach Binotto with only 19 seconds left in regulation scored the Pirates 3rd and final goal of the evening.
